Germanium detectorsGermanium is sensitive to light in the range of 800 - 1800 nm. Typical applications are gas analysis, chemical process monitoring, war games and missile guidance. Though Ge has a lower noise performance than InGaAs it offers significant cost advantages, particularly where a large detection area is required. In addition, Ge has a linear response at higher optical input power levels.

The Si/Ge two-color detector offers spectral response in the region of 400 - 1800 nm. It features a high rise time, low noise in one package, and is also available as arrays. It is suitable for applications such as FTIR, LIDAR and spectroscopy, and is also available in TO-cans with BNC connectors, filters and TE-coolers. Parameter AB also offers the Quad Ge detector. Sizes range from 0.5 mm to 3 mm in diameter. It is suitable for spectroscopy and positioning, and is delivered in one package with optional features.
